John Walker moved to El Paso, TX a few years before starting the orphanage in 1994. He became involved with local churches in
Juarez, Mexico and met his wife, Carmen. They knew the Lord wanted them to start a home for children. John came to the property on
which the orphanage now stands after much prayer and consulting with other pastors. John remembers driving with two pastors from
Juarez to view the land. As they were driving, they felt certain that this was the place the Lord wanted them to have the orphanage. The
Lord gave one of the pastors with John a verse: Numbers 14:7-8. "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the
LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us." They immediately
sought out the president of the local colonial government who had been in charge there for over thirty years in order to purchase the
property, which John did over the next couple years, piece by piece. This is a picture of the first house being built on the property in
1994. The property on the mesa where the orphanage now stands was completely bare and had one, very small, broken down shack
with neither a roof nor a door.
